The Faith Academy of Marble Falls volleyball team crushed San Antonio Lutheran 25-5, 25-14, 25-19 Oct. 9 in District 4-3A of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools.

The Lady Flames (23-6, 6-1) are on an eight-match winning streak.

“We got another good one,” head coach Erin Sawyer said. “I think it was just making unforced errors on our part. Just little mistakes that we need to cleanup. But otherwise, it went well.”

Sophomore athlete Ella Claiborne led with 16 kills, an ace, an assist, 10 digs and six receptions. Junior Kerrington Silvers added 12 kills, four digs and three receptions.

Sawyer noted this match gave the Lady Flames an opportunity to continue to work on different plays to add to their base offense and defense.

“I’m just trying to get the girls more comfortable,” she said. “We’re practicing on running certain plays doing things like that. This week was also still working on that to push that agenda, getting ready for playoffs.”

Faith turns its attention to a week that begins at home against Waco Live Oak Tuesday, Oct. 14, and at San Antonio Keystone Thursday, Oct. 16, with the junior varsity playing at 5 p.m. and the varsity to follow.

The Lady Flames end the week at home against Austin San Juan Diego Saturday, Oct. 18, with the junior varsity playing at 1 p.m. and the varsity to follow.

All of these contests are part of the second round of district play.

“We need to win obviously, but it’s not one that we gotta come in like ‘ready to roll’ and not drop one this time,” the coach said. “We have to show that we’re not messing around. We’ve been working towards over the last three years getting better. When I first helped out, I think we won one (match) when I started four years ago, and I was the (junior varsity) assistant. I think we won one district (match) that year. And then we’ve slowly gotten better and better each year, so I think it’s just another one to say, ‘Hey, we’re here and we’re here to stay. We’re not backing down.’ And to show people that whenever they play Faith, ‘Oh shoot, we’re playing Faith. It’s an easy one.’ Right now, it’s the standard quo. We’re just getting ready, we’re still plugging, taking each game day-by-day, working on our things getting ready for playoffs.”

Once the week ends, Sawyer said she’ll evaluate film to determine which plays she wants to keep.

“This week will be the one to do it,” she said. “I haven’t had a chance to look back at it just yet. I will start working on that for sure.”
